Green Week 24th-28th October

The Green-Schools committee at St. Mac Dara's has planned a Green Week for the school that is full of events and activities.

Activities include; a poster competitions for all first years. The theme of these posters will be anti litter and anti graffiti. Everyday there will be an environmental questions and answers and there will be a daily prize.

There will be a green day on Wednesday which involves all the students wearing their own clothes in and contributing €2, they will have to wear green and the best dressed will win a prize.

There will be a slogan competition for 5th and 6th year classes and the winner will receive a prize. A mascot  named Professor Green will go around to different classes during the week and give out green lollipops for free and a number of guest speakers are invited to give talks to the students. The money gained from events during this week will be invested into the green flag project.


A New Committee and New Initiatives

Since the start of September St. Mac Dara's has established a brand new committee allowing other students in the school the opportunity to be involved with Green Schools. The new committee has a very active and very keen attitude towardsattaining their first green flag this year. They have undertaken brand new initiatives towards attaining this goal.

These include; the purchasing of new segregated bins, a litter rota, a dedicated green room and are running a green week.

St. Mac Dara's NSC

St. Mac Dara's committee carried out a Spring Clean of the school and
grounds, segregated the waste and litter collected and discovered that
70% of it was recyclable! In response the school has decided to introduce
waste separation bins to facilitate recycling and organic waste collection.

Transition Year students have been the driving force behind the Green-Schools
programme at St. Mac Dara's Community College and as a result the school
has made excellent progress over the past school year. Well done everyone!
